Chronology of cameras Contax

The Contax RTS II Quartz was introduced at the 1982 PMA in Las Vegas, during Contax's 50th anniversary.

Externally, the RTS II differs little from the RTS, allowing accessories from the RTS to fit seamlessly onto the RTS II.

Technically, the RTS II is an improvement over the RTS and the 139 Quartz. Its shutter curtain is made of titanium. Exposure can be memorized (and recalled in the viewfinder), it has a depth of field tester, the viewfinder covers 97% of the image, interchangeable viewfinders (eight different models), and it can be motorized up to 5 frames per second. The mirror is retractable.

Shutter speeds are controlled by quartz. It has a mechanical speed, 1/50, which has its own separate release button. The same button is used to test depth of field. The synchronization speed remains at 1/60. The B mode requires a cable release, with its connector in front of the camera, while a socket for an electronic release is at the rear. Speeds are digitally displayed in the viewfinder by red LEDs.

Highly professional accessories can be used with it: the Winder W-3 (3 fps), the Professional Motor Drive W-6 (5 fps) with the PMD Power Pack, External Power Supply P-3 (for using AA batteries), and the D-4 Date Back.

This camera is therefore high-end and capable of competing with the Nikon F3 or Pentax LX.
